Larsson: Swede ready for Blues test

Seb Larsson is aiming to rekindle the spirit of Sunderland’s 2014 Stamford Bridge win when the Blues travel to Wearside on Saturday.

Goals from Connor Wickham and Fabio Borini handed the Black Cats a priceless victory and Larsson revealed it provided the hope and momentum needed to escape the drop.

On Saturday at 3pm Sunderland will once again head into battle against the Blues and just like 2014 they desperately need the points, with just three games remaining in the Barclays Premier League season.

Speaking to safc.com Larsson looked back on memorable win in South London, explaining that a similar performance and result this weekend can set up another grandstand finale.

“It was a brilliant day,” said the midfielder. “We desperately needed points so to win at Stamford Bridge when they hadn’t lost there in the league for so long was obviously special.

“Those are the games that set you up to go on and finish the season on a high and that’s exactly what we want to do again.”

He continued: “We’ve been in the situation where people have written us off before because we’ve had a tough schedule, but we’ve managed to produce good results against good teams so hopefully we can pull another one off.

“We know we’re playing a very, very good team who have had a difficult season, but on their day they’re still a top side so we just need to focus on producing a very good performance and hopefully that can give us the three points.

“The main key is about holding your nerve and being able to handle the pressure because in every game the pressure is high and you can’t try and repair anything later on.

“It’s now or never.”
