England U21: Pickford and Watmore star in win

Jordan Pickford and Duncan Watmore helped England's Under-21 side win the prestigious Toulon Tournament for the first time since 1994 yesterday.

The duo both started the final of the competition as the Three Lions ran out 2-1 winners against hosts France.

Lewis Baker's looping header gave England the lead after just eight minutes before Chelsea's Ruben-Loftus Cheek doubled the advantage from 15 yards.

Abdou Diallo replied for France in the closing stages, but England stayed strong to secure a deserved victory.

Boss Gareth Southgate, whose side won all four of their group games, told thefa.com:

“I think we were the best team today and the best team in the tournament. The players were exceptional over the whole two weeks.”

Both Pickford and Watmore proved to be key figures over the course of the tournament and will now return to England with some richly deserved silverware for their efforts.

Meanwhile Seb Larsson's Sweden are in action today, as they host Slovenia (KO 6.30pm).
