I have been really impressed by the support we have received from the fans

Wahbi Khazri has paid tribute to the passion shown from Sunderland’s fans since he joined from Ligue 1 side Bordeaux in January.

The Tunisian international spoke of his desire to play in the Premier League when he signed for Sam Allardyce’s side, and while it hasn’t been a completely smooth ride the 25-year-old has played an integral part in helping the club secure their top-flight status for a tenth consecutive year.

With two goals to his name since joining - including a sensational volley against Chelsea - Khazri has become known for his inventive set-pieces which in the end helped set up all three goals against Everton, as the Black Cats sealed their survival.

Speaking to safc.com Khazri thanked supporters for their undying efforts and revealed how much he is enjoying life on Wearside.

“I have been really impressed by the support we have received from the fans,” he admitted. “They have been there home and away and they have come to every game and given us fantastic support and it was great because they have really helped get us over the line.

“They helped us against Chelsea and Everton and it was really nice to share that with them at the end of the Everton game.

“I want to say thank you to each and every one of them and we look forward to seeing them again next season,” he continued.

“Ever since I arrived I have been made to feel really welcome by everyone, we already had a great squad and a good team but the new signings brought something a little extra.

“I scored against Chelsea and Lamine (Kone) scored against Everton so we have settled in well and we have adapted to the Premier League well, long may that continue.”
