Preview: Stade Nyonnais v Sunderland

David Moyes will take charge of Sunderland for the first time when the Black Cats take on Stade Nyonnais on Monday evening (KO 6.30pm UK time).

After flying to France on Sunday following a 2-1 win over Rotherham United, the Lads will be hoping to maintain their 100% record in pre-season which also includes a resounding 3-0 win over Hartlepool United.

Opponents Nyonnais play their football in the 1. Liga Promotion – the third tier of Swiss football – and they will offer a good workout for the Black Cats who have just one day to recover before facing French side Dijon on Wednesday.

Founded in 1905, the club recorded their record attendance in 2001 when they faced Real Madrid, but Monday’s game will take place at a neutral venue; the Stade Camille-Fournier, Évian-les-Bains

Moyes, who was unveiled on Saturday, watched from the stands at the New York Stadium, and in his first interview as Sunderland boss he challenged his players to stake a claim.

“The players did a great job with how they finished [the season] and how well they performed in making sure they weren't in trouble.

“We have to pick up on that and make sure we're challenging the players and giving them tough competition. There's going to be people pushing them for their jersey if they're not performing well.”

John O’Shea and Seb Larsson have now linked up with the squad following their exploits at Euro 216, but they’re unlikely to feature on Monday with a number of youngsters set to start.

Billy Jones, Lee Cattermole and Jan Kirchhoff have also travelled with the squad after missing Saturday’s win over the Millers.
