Moyes: New boss can't wait to get started

Upon being appointed as new Sunderland boss, David Moyes admitted he’d been hoping for the chance to move to the Stadium of Light for quite some time.

Moyes signed a four-year deal with the Black Cats following Sam Allardyce’s departure and is looking forward to getting his new role underway.

“It feels really good to be the manager of Sunderland. It's been something I was looking to get done ever since I heard of the possibility of Sam [Allardyce] going to England,” Moyes told SAFSee.

“I knew Ellis [Short] had been interested in me in the past; I hoped he would come back again and he certainly did.”

The Scot will have to hit the ground running as he starts his tenure with the Black Cats with a pre-season fixture at Rotherham on Saturday afternoon, before linking up with his new team and backroom staff in France for further pre-season games.

“The priority is to get to know the players as quickly as I can. I'm going to join up with the players today at Rotherham, introduce myself and meet the staff,” Moyes continued.

“I will travel with them to France tomorrow. I'm looking forward to getting that bit done first of all.

Moyes explained he is ready to draw on his vast experience as Sunderland prepare for the 2016-17 campaign. “I'm experienced. I've got about 850 games and about 450 of those have been in the Premier League, so I'm looking forward to getting back in again and being around the players.

“I have to see what we've got in the club, in the Academy, the young players coming through,” he added.“I need to have a look at the players, get to know them as quickly as I can, and I'll do that.”
