Mannone: I love it here

It’s a massive boost for me and my family because we love it here
VITO MANNONE

Vito Mannone is relishing the 2016-17 Premier League season after penning a new two-year deal at Sunderland AFC.

The ‘keeper moved to Wearside from Arsenal in July 2013 following eight years with the Gunners, and he quickly established himself as the Black Cats undisputed number one.

Costel Pantilimon’s arrival saw the Italian lose his place in the starting XI, but the 2013-14 Player of the Year worked tirelessly behind the scenes and regained a starting berth during the 2015-16 campaign.

And after playing a key role in renewing Sunderland’s Premier League status, Mannone can’t wait to get the new season underway.

“I just got back so what a way to start the new season,” said the Italian after committing his future to the club. “It’s a massive boost for me and my family because we love it here – the club the fans and everyone involved – and it means a great deal to me.

“I fought so hard in the past to get here. There were ups and downs so it is a great achievement for me to sign this contract, and hopefully we’re looking forward to a great season ahead of us.”

He continued: “We keep repeating ourselves every season but now is the time to really do it.

“We have a great base, the squad is strong and hopefully there will be a few players coming in to help us, and the coaching staff are also great so we just want to get going and get ready.

“We’re looking forward to the Premier League.”
