Manager: Moyes targets points

David Moyes has called on his players to turn their spirited performances into points as they look to climb the Premier League table.

Sunderland were resilient throughout against Chelsea on Wednesday but fell behind when a swift passing moving on 40 minutes saw Cesc Fabreges sweep the ball into the bottom corner .

The Black Cats responded brightly but were unable to find a route back into the match as Thibaut Courtois produced two stunning stops to deny Adnan Januzaj and Patrick van Aanholt.

But as Moyes’ boys turn their attentions to their third Premier League match in seven days, with the arrival of Watford on Saturday, the message from the manager is to be more clinical and get back to winning ways.

“I didn’t think we were very good in the first half but we improved when Adnan went up top alongside Jermain (Defoe) and I thought we looked as if we had another option,” he said.

“We had a couple of injuries and a suspension to Didier (Ndong) as well which left us pretty low in selection and choices.

“We have had a good run, we have had some good results and we have put in some good performances.

“At Anfield we didn’t produce a bad performance and against Chelsea wasn’t bad either but what we now need is points,” he continued.

“That’s what we need to start picking up.”
