A true great: Larsson on Ibrahimovic

Seb Larsson has labelled Swedish team-mate Zlatan Ibrahimovic as one of the very best.

Sunderland head to the Theatre of Dreams looking to emulate the success they enjoyed two years in May 2014, when Larsson’s first-half volley handed the Black Cats a crucial three points.

Standing in their through are a rejuvenated Manchester United side who are looking to extend their winning run to five games.

With Ibrahimovic, who has scored eight goals in his last seven matches, spearheading United’s front line, Larsson is all too aware of the threat the 35-year-old holds.

Between them they have a combined total of more than 200 international caps, and Larsson has enjoyed an international career spanning eight years with the European heavyweight.

As the pair prepare to go head-to-head on Boxing Day, the 31-year-old has paid tribute to his international team-mate, admitting he is one of the best around.

“I’ve played against him plenty of times in training, that’s for sure, but I don’t think I’ve ever come up against him in a competitive match,” he said. “I’ve played loads of games with him, though.

“Without a doubt he’s one of the best players I’ve ever played with. I had a few games with some top players at Arsenal but it’s him and a couple of others if I had to pick the best.”

“I get on with most people and I get on well with Zlatan, there are no issues whatsoever,” he continued.

“He’s a true winner, that’s for sure.

“He doesn’t accept anything else but winning whether it’s just training or whatever it is. I think that shows in the amount of medals he’s got during his career.

“It will be interesting but I definitely hope he draws a blank when he comes up against us.”
