Transfer round-up: Sunderland's summer arrivals

Pappy Djilobodji – Chelsea

Sunderland first summer signing was revealed on 5 August as Papy Djilobodji signed on the dotted-line.

The dominant centre back has enjoyed a bright start on Wearside making his debut against Middlesbrough before making further starts against Shrewsbury Town and Southampton.

Capped 13 times by Senegal, Djilibodji will be hoping to build on a bright start which has seen him forge a formidable partnership with Lamine Kone.

Paddy McNair & Donald Love – Manchester United

The Black Cats completed a double deal on 11 August as Donald Love and Paddy McNair traded Old Trafford for the Stadium of Light.

Both players signed four-year deals on Wearside with Northern Ireland international McNair completing a busy summer which also saw him feature at Euro 2016.

Love, meanwhile, is a Scotland under-21 international who made his Premier League debut against the Lads, with both players playing a role at the start of the 2016-17 season.

Adnan Januzaj – Manchester United (loan)

Adnan Januzaj became Sunderland’s third signing from Manchester United when he arrived on a season-long loan.

Thrust immediately into the action, Januzaj came off the bench against Manchester City less than 24 hours after signing for the Black Cats as Moyes’ side were beaten late on.

The Belgium international burst onto the scene as an 18-year-old with United and will be hoping to dazzle the Premier League once more after reuniting with his former mentor.

He's already found the net scoring a late winner against Shrewsbury.

Steven Pienaar – free agent

Januzaj wasn’t the only player to rekindle a relationship with Moyes as Steven Pienaar signed a one-year deal at Sunderland.

The South African boasts a wealth of Premier League experience having made over 200 appearances for Everton while also representing Tottenham Hotspur during the 2011-12 season.

Pienaar has been capped 61 times by his national side and has already offered an assured and confident head in the centre of midfield.

Javier Manquillo – Atletico Madrid (loan)

Javier Manquillo became Sunderland’s sixth signing of the summer with a loan deal announced in the wake of the Black Cats’ EFL Cup win over Shrewsbury.

The 22-year-old is no stranger to the Premier League having featured for Liverpool during the 2014-15 season, while also gaining UEFA Champions League and Europa League experience with Atleti.

Manquillo spent last season on loan with French side Marseille and could move permanently to the Stadium of Light following the completion of his loan.

Didier Ndong – FC Lorient

Sunderland’s biggest signing of the summer came on deadline day as Didier Ndong signed from FC Lorient for 16 million euros.

The highly-rated midfielder signed a five-year deal on Wearside following an 18-month spell in Ligue 1.

He has also been a mainstay in the Gabon side in recent years, with 18 caps for his country after making his debut for the national team in 2012.

Jason Denayer – Manchester City (loan)

Sunderland’s final summer signing came with just one hour to spare as Jason Denayer penned a season-long loan deal from Manchester City.

Already a Belgium international, the 21-year-old has UEFA Champions League experience with both Celtic and Galatasaray winning a league and cup double with the latter, while also being named as the PFA Young Player of the Year.

Last season Denayer lifted the Turkish Cup assisting the only goal in the final before featuring at Euro 2016.
