Top 10: Steven Pienaar's fact file

To help you get to know Sunderland's latest summer signing, safc.com has compiled a fact file of every you need to know about Steven Pienaar....  

-   The midfielder was born in Johannesburg, South Africa on March 17, 1982. 

-   Pienaar began his career at Ajax Cape Town before a move to Eredivisie side Ajax came around in 2001.  

-   During his time in the Dutch league the 34-year-old formed a fine partnership with one time Everton man Andy van der Meyde and Manchester United star Zlatan Ibrahimovic.  

-   The South African enjoyed life in the Eredivisie and made 94 league appearances for Ajax, netting 15 goals from midfield.  

-   Pienaar has made 194 appearances for Everton and Tottenham in the Premier League.  

-   He has assisted 33 goals during his time in England’s top flight, which is the third-most by any African player since 1992.  

-   Pienaar made his international debut for South Africa in 2002 against Turkey. 

-   The midfielder went onto make a further 61 appearances for his country and featured at two world cups before calling time on the international stage in 2012. 

-   In 2009 Pienaar was named South African Player of the Year before later being named Everton's Player of the Year for his fine efforts during the 2009-10 Premier League campaign.  

-   A brief stint at Tottenham was sandwiched in between his two spells on Merseyside, and following the conclusion of his contract he has since joined the Black Cats on a one-year deal.
