Lamine Kone’s second half goal against Borussia Dortmund ensured Sunderland rounded off their pre-season without tasting defeat - an accomplishment the defender predicted ahead of the six fixtures!
After the final whistle against the Bundesliga giants, Kone was a very happy man, having been proven right and getting his name on the scoresheet in the process.
“It was very good game,” Kone told safc.com. “We gave a strong performance against a team of good players; it was the best test for us for the last game.
“They have [Mario] Gotze, [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang, [Adrian] Ramos and many more big players, I was happy with how we played. It was very positive.”
“I’m very happy with my goal,” he continued. “It’s my first in pre-season and I’m looking for more when the season starts – I hope to score 5 or 6 this season.”
Kone believes playing a team with the quality of Borissia Dortmund is the best way to get ready for the trip to the Etihad next weekend when the 2016-17 campaign kicks off.
“It’s the best way to prepare or next week and the start of the Premier League when we play Man City.”
“I’ve played four games and I feel really positive after; I’m feeling fit and strong.”
