Kirchhoff: Moyes is a 'football teacher'

German midfielder Jan Kirchhoff has been impressed by David Moyes, declaring that working under the new manager will make him a better player.

The Glaswegian has been in charge for less than two weeks but his influence cannot be underestimated according to Kirchhoff.

On Friday the club face their biggest test of pre-season facing Borussia Dortmund at the Cashpoint Arena, Austria, with just one week separating Sunderland from a Premier League opener with Manchester City.

And speaking to safc.com, Kirchhoff explained why working under Moyes will improve the team.

“Moyes is a proper football coach,” said Kirchhoff. “We call it a ‘football teacher’ in Germany – he is really close to the team and looking for details which in my opinion will raise our game and make all of us better.

“It’s good for every footballer to be influenced to be a better and that’s what we’re looking for, so hopefully we will be a good team next season.”

He continued: “We’re getting results and I think that’s the main thing we have to keep doing.

“We need to create a winning atmosphere and get points from the start of the season as fast as we can to have a successful season which is our goal.

“We’re doing well in pre-season and hopefully everything will be in our mind and in our body to be ready for Manchester City.”
