Januzaj: Moyes gives me confidence

Adnan Januzaj believes David Moyes can once again be the key to his success.

The Belgium international flourished under the Sunderland manager while he was Manchester United boss, making his first start against the Black Cats at the Stadium of Light when he scored a sensational double.

Post-match Moyes compared Januzaj to Wayne Rooney and Ross Barkley – both of which made their debuts under his management – hailing him as a ‘special talent’.

Fast forward three years, and the 21-year-old is once again hoping to prove himself on Wearside.

“The manager has given me the opportunity to come here and prove myself again,” said Januzaj. “I came here to play games and I’m looking forward to working with David Moyes again.

“I always enjoyed playing in his team with the freedom and the confidence he gives me.”

He added: “Once you have that confidence you can do things and make things happen.”

Januzaj’s move to Sunderland saw him become the third player to swap Old Trafford for the Stadium of Light during the summer window, and he’s settling in well.

“We have a very good group with nice lads and very good coaches, so I’m happy to be here and obviously the fans are unbelievable so I’m looking forward to the start of the new season.

“I was already friends with Donald and Paddy at Manchester United as we played together, so it’s good to have them here.”
