Anichebe: I have good friends here

Victor Anichebe is looking forward to the next chapter in his career under the tutelage of a familiar face.

The Nigerian international worked with David Moyes for a long spell at Everton and will link up again with the Scot following a spell at West Brom.

Anichebe has joined Sunderland on a deal until the end of the season and can't wait to get his Black Cats career under way.

And he admitted the presence of Moyes was a big factor in his decision, with the striker fielding offers from a number of clubs in the UK and abroad.

“I’m really happy to be here at a great club,” Anichebe explained.

“I have a lot of good friends here and everyone knows that I know the manager really well.

“He brought me through as a young player and was a big factor in me coming here.

“I had a few options in England and Europe but the manager was a huge pull for me. He knows me inside out and I feel like he can get the best out of me.”

He added: “Sunderland is a really good club, it was always difficult to come here and play against them.

“Hopefully we can put together some good performances and do really well.”
