Kirchhoff: "It's in our hands"

Jan Kirchhoff has hailed the team spirit within the Sunderland ranks ahead of the final run-in.

On Sunday the Black Cats edged out of the bottom three with four games remaining, but there is still work to be done with a trip to Stoke City followed by matches against Chelsea (H), Everton (H) and Watford (A).

Norwich, who sit level with Sunderland on points but have an inferior goal difference, also have four games to play, with Newcastle United, trailing by sides by one point, playing one more game to date.

But Kirchhoff isn’t looking elsewhere as the Barclays Premier League reaches its climax, with the German midfielder confident Sunderland can get the job done.

“We’re out of the bottom three now which is a good feeling for us,” said Kirchhoff. “It is a positive situation at the moment and we’re in a good run bringing good performances to the pitch every week.

“We have to keep going with our daily work and I think we’re in a good way to stay in the league.”

He continued: “It was great to win an important game last weekend to keep our chances of staying in the league alive, and again against Arsenal we have managed to keep a clean sheet and pick up a point.

“It was good to have a game in hand because we knew we could change the situation, and we’ve done that now so its back in our hands and we also still have a game in hand over Newcastle.

“We have a much better goal difference so we just have to hold this position and get our points. We have a really good atmosphere in this squad so I’m positive.”
