Defender delighted by SoL return.
Santiago Vergini is buzzing to be back after returning to Sunderland on a season-long loan deal.
The Argentinian defender, who has been capped once by the 2014 World Cup finalists, returns to Wearside for a second spell having spent the latter stages of last season on loan at the Stadium of Light.
Speaking exclusively to safc.com, the defender thanked the club for the opportunity to return ahead of the 2014-15 Barclays Premier League season.
“Firstly I'm very thankful to the club for giving me this opportunity, I’m really happy to be here once again and I’m also very happy to see so many recognisable faces.
“I’m very keen to get started and join in with the rest of the squad ahead of the new season.”
He added: “The feeling I’ve had here at this club has been very good, it is a big club and my whole focus is on contributing all I can.”
Vergini, 26, made 14 appearances for the Black Cats during the 2013-14 campaign, and he will add further versatility to Gus Poyet’s backline following the signings of Billy Jones and Patrick van Aanholt.
“I believe I can bring many things to the team, I am available for selection and I hope to be given game time.
“My natural position is centre-back but I also feel very comfortable playing on the right, so the challenge for me is to become part of the team.
“I will offer all I can so we can have a good season.”
