Striker in contention after making comeback against Udinese.
Gus Poyet is confident that Jozy Altidore will be ready for Saturday’s Barclays Premier League opener against West Bromwich Albion.
The USA international featured on Saturday as the Black Cats rounded off their pre-season campaign with a 2-0 win over Udinese, making his comeback after suffered a hamstring injury in the Stars and Stripes' opening World Cup match against Ghana.
Speaking to safc.com after the game, the head coach explained that Altidore will take part in full training ahead of Saturday’s match.
“Jozy is coming along well,” revealed Poyet. “We were thinking he could feature for 45 to 30 minutes, the idea was to get him to play a part in case we need him in any games.
“I’m sure he will work a little bit more this week and a full week of proper training will help him be part of the squad for [Saturday].”
