Pickford takes victory on competitive debut for Bradford.

Jordan Pickford: Bradford City 3-2 Coventry City

Jordan Pickford made his Bradford City debut in a thrilling 3-2 win over Coventry City at the Coral Windows Stadium.

The shot-stopper started for the Bantams in front of 14,621 as James Hanson scored a dramatic 90th-minute winner.

Hanson opened the scoring for the home side but they were pegged back by a Reda Johnson strike in the closing stages of the first half.

Alan Sheehan’s penalty put the Bantams back into the lead but Phil Parkinson’s men struck back in heart-breaking fashion as Johnson made it 2-2 with 89 minutes played.

It didn’t stay level for long however, with Hanson heading home Jason Kennedy’s cross to seal three points on the opening day of the League One season.

Next up for Pickford and the Bantams is a trip to Morecambe in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night.

Joel Dixon: Stevenage 1-0 Hartlepool United

Meanwhile, fellow Academy goalkeeper Joel Dixon was an unused substitute for Hartlepool United who began their League Two campaign with a 1-0 defeat at Stevenage.

Charlie Lee scored the only goal of the game midway through the second half, but there was controversy at the death as Colin Cooper’s side were denied a stoppage time penalty.

Next up for Pools and Dixon is a Capital One Cup tie against Port Vale on Tuesday night.

El-Hadji Ba: Bastia 3-3 Marseille

El-Hadji Ba’s Bastia side came from behind to earn a credible 3-3 draw at home to Marseille on the opening day of the Ligue 1 season, although Ba did not feature.

Claude Makelele’s side went 3-1 down to the visitors as Andre-Pierre Gignac scored twice but Christopher Maboulou’s own brace was enough to earn a point for the Blues.
