Two new boys caught Cattermole's eye.
Jack Rodwell and Patrick van Aanholt both impressed Lee Cattermole during Saturday’s 2-2 draw at West Bromwich Albion.
The duo both made their competitive debuts for the Black Cats, as Sebastian Larsson’s 85th minute strike sealed a point at the Hawthorns.
Cattermole opened the scoring in spectacular fashion, and he believes Rodwell will play a key role moving forward having already displayed his commitment to the club.
“Jack has come here and he hasn’t had much game time recently, but he has signed a five-year deal with the club which shows his commitment.
“He’s got plenty of time to bed in and get to know our style of play, and his team-mates.”
The former Wigan Athletic man also praised van Aanholt, who responded well to play a pivotal role in Sunderland’s late equaliser.
“Patrick looks great going forward, he was obviously disappointed to lose his man for the goal but he got back and did well for our second goal.
“It was his first Premier League start and he has shown that he has got a lot of potential, I think they will both be good players for us.”
