Defender backs Italian stopper.
Wes Brown shared Vito Mannone’s hurt following Manchester City’s late equaliser on Wednesday night.
The Italian stopper got a hand to Samir Nasri’s powerful shot only for the ball to roll agonisingly over the line as City claimed a share of the spoils.
“Of course we’d have taken a point before the game,” Brown told safc.com. “But it’s so disappointing to concede a last minute goal after doing so well to come back from 1-0 down.”
Brown endured the same agony in Saturday’s game with Everton when the Toffees left Wearside with all three points after he deflected Gerard Deulofeu’s shot over the line.
“Vito was really down in the dressing room after the game,” the defender explained.
“But we’ve all been over to him and tried to rally him around. We still need him and he’s been fantastic for us all season.”
Mannone has been one of the stand-out performers in the 2013-14 campaign, after his performances in the league and his heroics in the Capital One cup run.
“I’m sure Vito will be fine - it’s happened to us a lot this season - It was me last week and the quicker you get over it the better,” the former Manchester United man continued.
“There’s still a chance we can do what we need to do and that’s what we’ve got to keep hoping and striving for.
“The result against City can give us the confidence to go out and turn in more performances to achieve that.”
