Interim head coach reflects on Reds clash.

Kevin Ball spoke to SAFSee following the 3-1 defeat to Liverpool at the Stadium of Light on Sunday.

Emanuele Giaccherini scored his third goal of the season for the Black Cats but Luis Suarez’ double, as well as Daniel Sturridge’s first-half strike, gave Brendan Rodgers’ side all three points.

And the interim head coach was pleased with the battling qualities his side showed in the second-half.

“I think overall, in terms of the game and how we set out for the game, it was very good,” Ball said. “The players endeavour and commitment to the cause was excellent.

“When you’re 2-0 down it’s a case of ‘What are you going to do now?’ ‘Are you just going to rollover or are you going to have a go?’

“We spoke about that at half-time and I think in the second-half everyone in the stadium saw us having a right go at doing it correctly and I think fair play to them.

“When we scored the goal we had chances to get right back in the game - we just need to turn that performance into results.”
