Former defender feels Sunderland beginning to see the best of Italian international.
Former Black Cats captain Gary Bennett feels Sunderland fans are beginning to see the best of summer signing Emanuele Giaccherini.
Bennett, who made 443 appearances in his 11 years with the club, believes the Italian international’s recent performances, under the stewardship of interim head coach Kevin Ball, should excite the Black Cats’ new head coach Gus Poyet.
“In the last few games we’ve seen what a good player Giaccherini is,” Bennett told safc.com. “Obviously he’s come here with a reputation and he’s an Italian international but we’ve never seen the best of him.
“He’s played in a bit of a free role [in recent games] and you’ve just seen what a good player he is; the ability he’s got, his movement and again he’s scoring goals.
