Poyer's praise for 'magnificent' O'Shea after late knock.

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet is hoping to have John O’Shea available for the midweek game against Chelsea after the defender picked up a knock against Aston Villa.

Let’s hope it’s nothing serious and he will be available on Wednesday

O’Shea went down injured during the final few minutes of the 0-0 draw at Villa Park but battled through to the final whistle with the visitors having already used all three substitutes.

Poyet praised the former Manchester United man afterwards and is hoping his skipper will be in contention when Jose Mourinho’s side head north on Wednesday.

He told SAFSee: “John injured his groin late in the game, he knew we’d made all three changes and he stuck in there. He put himself on the line for the game, which is magnificent.

“Let’s hope that it’s nothing serious and [that] he will be available on Wednesday.”
