Boss praises supporters ahead of this weekend’s game.
Following his first few weeks on Wearside, Gus Poyet says the calibre of Sunderland’s support has been “amazing”.
The red and white army’s consistent backing has been a key feature so far for the Uruguayan, who will take charge of his fifth fixture this weekend.
And he says the impact of such support cannot be underestimated.
“Even in the second half at Hull, away from home and down to nine, to have the fans believing [was fantastic],” he said.
“They didn't give up and they helped us. I know how important it is for the players. The atmosphere against Newcastle was unique; incredible.
“We need them and we will try to give them more three points and wins…together it is a little bit easier.”
