Midfielder eager for cup run.
Jack Colback was an integral part of Sunderland’s last cup run and says further progress in the Capital One Cup would be a big benefit.
A cup run would be really good all round; for the club, players and fans
- Jack Colback
The midfielder was part of the 2011-12 squad which reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup with Budweiser before being eliminated by Everton in a replay.
The Black Cats face in-form Southampton on Wednesday evening in the Capital One Cup (KO 7.45pm) with a place in the last eight at stake.
And Colback says the cup competitions offer a good opportunity for his side.
“A cup run would be really good all round; for the club, players and fans,” he said.
“The FA Cup run we had a couple of seasons ago brought a lot of excitement; we are looking forward to tomorrow night’s game.”
He added: “Southampton are doing really well – they will be full of confidence and it will be a tough game.”
The winners of Wednesday night’s tie will face Chelsea at home but Colback says the squad’s attention is focused squarely on the task at hand.
“It’s obviously another home draw, which would be good, but we are focusing only on Southampton at the moment – we can’t be looking ahead.”
