Pickford set for England duty

Keeper called up for U19 tournament.

Sunderland keeper Jordan Pickford has been named in the England U19 squad for the forthcoming Euro Elite Qualifying Round.

The stopper, who is a regular for his country, is part of an 18-man squad for the tournament, which will take place in Belgium between 24-29 May.

England will face Georgia in their opening game before a clash with the host Belgians precedes a meeting with old rivals Scotland.

Noel Blake’s side head into the tournament on the back of three successive victories as they look to secure a place at July’s European Championship Finals in Lithuania.

Pickford, 19, has recently returned from a two-month loan spell at Conference Premier side Alfreton, where he made 12 appearances.

He also made 12 appearances for the club’s under-21 side in 2012-13.
