Former Red expects both sides to be fully focused.
Wes Brown knows Manchester United more than most – and he says the overwhelming title favourites will be keeping the pedal firmly pressed to the metal this weekend.
The Red Devils are in pole position to claim the Barclays Premier League crown, boasting a 15-point lead at the top with nine games to play.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s side are pushing for silverware on the cup front, too, and face Chelsea in a key tie next week.
But Brown, who played 371 games during 15 years with United, says he expects Saturday’s visitors to be fully focused, along with his own side.
“It’s a big game and hopefully we can get a result,” Brown said. “The boys will be ready to go.
“Manchester United aren’t going to be complacent, not at all. They’ll be focused on the game and looking to make sure there’s no chance of Man City catching up.
“But we need points too and that starts on Saturday.”
Brown is continuing his comeback from a knee injury and played his first 90 minutes in 14 months against Blackpool in a behind closed doors friendly recently.
He’ll be looking on at the Stadium of Light this weekend and insists a positive result is within his side’s grasp if they put in the hard yards for the full 90 minutes.
“We’ve just got to work and play as a team,” he added.
“We have the ability – it’s just up to us to make sure we stick together and work hard.”
