Academy product signs for League Two side.
Former Sunderland youngster Adam Reed has joined League Two side Burton Albion.
Reed, who was released by the Black Cats at the end of the 2012-13 season, has signed a one-year deal at the Pirelli Stadium.
Burton manager Gary Rowett told the club website: “Adam is a midfielder who arrives with good pedigree. He is exactly the type of player and personality we want at the club and we’re very pleased to add him to the squad.”
Reed, a midfielder, captained Sunderland’s development squad last season and has had Football League experience during loan spells with Brentford, Bradford, Leyton Orient and Portsmouth.
The 22-year-old also spent time on loan at York City last season, helping the Minstermen retain their league status, scoring twice in a six-game unbeaten spell.
Burton qualified for the League Two play-offs in 2012-13, finishing fourth and missing out on automatic promotion by two points.
However, they were defeated in the semi-finals by Bradford City, who went on to see off Northampton at Wembley.
