Pre-season training to kick off next week.

The Sunderland squad will return to the Academy of Light next week for the start of pre-season training.

Head coach Paolo Di Canio, who signed up Swedish starlet David Moberg Karlsson last week, will begin putting his charges through their paces ahead of the new campaign.

The players will return on Wednesday 3rd July – 45 days before the 2013-14 Barclays Premier League season kicks off.

The Black Cats host Fulham at the Stadium of Light on the opening day of the season on August 17 before successive away trips to Southampton and Crystal Palace.

Sunderland will travel to Hong Kong to take part in the Barclays Asia Trophy in late July.

They will face Tottenham Hotspur at the Hong Kong Stadium on Wednesday 24th July before taking on either Manchester City or South China FC three days later.

Meanwhile the development and U18 squads will also return to training next week under the watchful eye of the Academy staff.

The U18s’ ranks feature eight new first-year scholars, including goalkeeper James Talbot and defenders Ryan Ellison, Michael Ledger and Ross Colquhoun.

The quartet will be joined by midfielders Reece Greenwood, Dylan McEvoy and Ethan Robson plus striker Jordan Blinco.

Meanwhile striker Duncan Watmore will link up with the U21 squad after agreeing a switch from Conference Premier side Altrincham.
