Winger benefiting from intense schedule.
Irish international James McClean believes he and his team mates will reap the benefits of their tough pre-season programme.
“It’s been very intense,” the winger told safc.com. “Especially following on from 11 days in Italy.
“There’s been a lot of work to do; it’s been very hard but hopefully that will stand us in good stead for the season.”
The Black Cats played two practice games during their stay in Italy, before heading to the Far East to play their part in the Barclays Asia Trophy.
Alongside the two games in Hong Kong, the players have been put through their paces by Paolo Di Canio and his backroom staff twice a day, where, typically, early morning sessions focus on fitness and evening sessions concentrating more on football and tactics.
McClean concluded: “I’m feeling very fit at the minute, you only get out what you put in and the squad have given their all.”
