Defender relishing Hong Kong clash.
John O’Shea has revealed that he and the players can’t wait for their first outing in the Barclays Asia Trophy in Hong Kong.
The defender told safc.com that the team are chomping at the bit to take on Tottenham Hotspur after an intensive pre-season training programme.
O’Shea said: “A good base of training is always important for pre-season but what the players look forward to is the actual football and a game against Tottenham in Hong Kong is a fantastic start.
“The two games in Italy were ideal for where we were at that stage, but we’re fully aware how good Spurs are so it will be a good test to see where we are.”
O’Shea and the rest of the squad have taken part in double training sessions in Hong Kong, something the Irishman believes is a great platform for building up fitness ahead of the opening game of the Premier League tournament.
“First and foremost it’s getting through the game and keeping everyone fit,” O’Shea continued,”And hopefully we’ve reached a level where we can put in a performance fitness wise and football wise.
“The Barclays Asia Trophy has got a fantastic following over here, we went to a reception when we arrived and we were told how popular the tournament is, it always sells out and the fans are very passionate about their football.
“It’s all very positive.”
