Alfred N’Diaye, who sealed a move from Bursaspor last week, got the chance to have his first run out in a red and white shirt during the final 10 minutes of Saturday’s win over West Ham United.

The midfielder’s introduction was greeted with great applause from the home crowd and stand-in skipper John O’Shea also enjoyed the Frenchman’s cameo appearance.

“Alfred N’Diaye got a fantastic reception.” O’Shea told safc.com.

“He was so eager to impress and he got in with a few tackles and really got stuck in – it looks like he’s going to be a major asset for us.”

N’Diaye, a combative player, arrives at the club with a reputation that excites Sunderland fans and O’Shea admits that his signing has also spurred on the team.

“His arrival has been a big boost to the dressing room.” O’Shea added.

“Any time a new player comes in, whether it’s Barcelona, Real Madrid or Sunderland, it pushes everyone on and makes players train harder and go that little bit further and that was the case on Saturday.
