Striker relished second half opportunity.

Striker Connor Wickham was delighted to get on the score sheet as his second half appearance against Bolton in Saturday’s FA Cup clash inspired Sunderland to comeback from a two-goal deficit.

It’s always my aim to be in among the manager’s plans, hopefully the goal against Bolton will stand me in good stead.

The youngster is hoping his showing in the final 30 minutes of the game is enough to give the manager food for thought as the Black Cats look to forge ahead in both the Premier League and FA Cup.

Wickham revealed: “It’s always my aim to be in among the manager’s plans, hopefully the goal against Bolton will stand me in good stead.

“[Steven] Fletcher has done really well this season and so has [Stephane} Sessegnon and any chance I get, I am grateful of and go out there and do what I can.”

The 19 year-old enjoyed the opportunity to play alongside Scottish international Steven Fletcher and hopes to be given more chances to work with the front man.

“I think we played well together.” Wickham said after the game.

“We linked up quite well and created chances in the game, we just need to put them away.

“Thankfully we got the two goals to get back in the game against Bolton and hopefully we’ll do better at our place and go on and get a good run in the FA Cup.”
