MON: Mangane prepared to battle for place.
Martin O’Neill says he’s pleased to add further competition for places after securing a deal to bring Kader Mangane to Wearside.
The hulking defender, who stands at 6’5”, has joined the Black Cats on loan from Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal until the end of the season.
Mangane, who hails from Senegal, is O’Neill’s second signing of the January transfer window after midfield man Alfred N’Diaye.
Speaking to the press just before the deal was completed, O’Neill said: “I hope he will add competition for places, which is important at any football club.
“We’ve had a few injuries and don’t want to leave ourselves short at this time of year.
“Kader is prepared to come and battle for a place in the team, which is encouraging.
“Adding competition makes us a bit more healthy.
“Alfred N’Diaye coming in has given us a lift around the place and Kader does too, albeit in a different position.”
