FA Cup quarter-final berth secured with away win.

Sporting Club Albion 1 Sunderland WFC 2

Sunderland’s ladies progressed to the fifth round of the Women’s FA Cup with a 2-1 victory over Sporting Club Albion.

Goals from Beth Mead and Sophie Williams preserved the ladies' unbeaten record in the 2012-13 season.

The Lady Black Cats took the lead after just four minutes when Rachel Furness intercepted the ball in midfield and drove at the Albion defence before feeding the ball into the path of Mead who calmly slotted home.

The lead was doubled on 20 minutes, good link up play between Vicki Greenwell and Kelly McDougall set Furness away and she swung the ball over for Williams who volleyed onto the crossbar before the ball was scrambled behind by the hosts.

The Lady Black Cats were not to be denied; however, as they increased their advantage from the resulting corner, Williams’ right-wing corner eluded everyone and crept in at the far post.

Robyn James scored a late consolation for Albion but Sunderland were once again on song and progress to the quarter-finals for the fifth consecutive season.
