With nearly 400 appearances to his name, Ball is highly regarded by fans at the SoL, and the hardened midfielder was part of the 1992 FA Cup runners-up squad in his second year with the club.
Ball spent nine years on Wearside as a player, winning the Player of the Season award in the 1996-97 season, before moving on to a brief spell at Fulham towards the end of his career.
