Colback up for Baggies test

Midfielder sizes up Saturday's opponents.

Sunderland midfielder Jack Colback says the Black Cats will go into Saturday’s game with West Bromwich Albion looking to banish last season’s defeat at the Hawthorns.

He said: “We didn’t have a good result at the Hawthorns last year but we’ll go there and set up well and hopefully get something from the game.

“We gifted them that win and made it hard for ourselves.

“We’ll be going in with confidence, though. We’re at the stage of the season where no matter how you play you need to start picking up points.”

The hosts excelled during the early stages of the season; occupying a top-six position for the most part.

However, a run of eight games without a win during the late winter has seen the Baggies move back into mid-table, though they won 2-0 at Anfield in their last game.

And Colback believes that win shows the strength of the opposition on Saturday.

“They defended well and obviously caught Liverpool on the break,” he explained.

“At the start of the season they were on fire [at home], they were beating the top teams there and everyone who went there seemed to get beaten.

“It’s a difficult place to go but we’ve got to go there hoping to win.”
