Moberg Karlsson excited for season opener

Sunderland midfielder David Moberg Karlsson says his excitement ahead of Saturday’s Barclays Premier League opener with Fulham is reaching fever pitch.

Moberg Karlsson joined the Black Cats from IFK Goteborg in June and he scored in the Barclays Asia Trophy semi-final victory over Spurs.

And he says the thought of walking out in front of over 40,000 fans at the Stadium of Light is a massive motivator as he prepares for the opening weekend.

“I’m very excited, with all the fans there I think it’s going to be very good,” the 19-year-old said.

“I think the most I’ve played in front of is 20,000 so I think it’s going to be a great experience - I don’t get nervous or scared I think it’s going to be great.”

The Swedish under-19 international has settled into new life on Wearside along with nine other signings during the current window.

And he believes the squad have gelled and began to adapt at the perfect time.

“We’ve trained hard now, practiced hard and played some tough game in Hong Kong and in Denmark so I think we’re ready,” he added.

“We had nine new players so everyone has had to learn things about each other but we’ve been here a while now and it’s getting better and better.”

Moberg Karlsson is also confident that Sunderland can get off to a winning start and end a four-year wait for a home win over the Cottagers.

“On paper we are quite similar but I think we’ve trained hard and have a strategy so I think we’ve got a good chance of winning,” Moberg Karlsson continued.

“Of course it’s a good chance to get a good start but if it’s not going so good at the beginning then it’s not the worst thing because there is many games this season.

“We just need to play well in every game and hopefully get as many points as possible.”
