Players in good spirits ahead of Villa trip.

Sunderland winger James McClean is looking forward to Monday night’s trip to the Midlands and hopes the team can add to their points tally when they face Aston Villa.

We know it’s going to be a tough test because they need points too, but the players are in good spirits.

McClean, who celebrated his 24th birthday earlier this week, will be keen to have an extra reason to celebrate; he told safc.com: “I’m looking forward to the Villa game, we’ll go down there confident on the back of our last two results and we’ll be hoping to come away with more points on the board.”

Last season, Sunderland played out a goalless draw at Villa Park after a hard-fought game and the Irishman is expecting more of the same.

“It’s a massive game for the club.

“We know it’s going to be a tough test because they need points too, but the players are in good spirits and the last couple of games have been a great boost to the team.

Paolo Di Canio’s Black Cats head into Monday’s Barclays Premier League clash on the back of two important victories, as well as an impressive display against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

“We’ve taken six points from our last two games,” McClean continued, “it would be brilliant to continue that run.”
