James McClean has paid tribute to the 40,000-plus Sunderland fans who roared their side on to victory over Everton on Saturday.

A bumper crowd, who were in great spirits on the back of last weekend’s derby triumph, packed out the Stadium of Light to see Paolo Di Canio take charge of his first home fixture.
Following the 1-0 win over Everton, the atmosphere within the ground was a hot topic amongst the players and McClean in particular was overwhelmed by the volume.
“When the fans pack out the stadium like that it gives you an extra lift,” he told safc.com. "They drove us on.
“There were points in the game where you could feel your legs going, then you heard the crowd roar you on and it helped you keep going.
“They’re a great credit to the club.”
