Louis Saha is hoping Sunderland can get their home league campaign off to a flying start against Liverpool this weekend.

The Black Cats face Brendan Rodgers’ side at the Stadium of Light on Saturday with former Everton striker Saha ready to face his old rivals.

Sunderland claimed promising away draws in each of their first two away league games and Saha is hoping a first win isn’t too far away.

They have new players, a new system and it is difficult to change things quickly. Liverpool are a great side and will be tough opponents.

“We are looking to make a good start at home, which is very important,” Saha said.

“We will be against a good side who are looking to change the mood of their start. It will be a tough, tough game.

“But we are at home with our fans and looking for another great result.”

Liverpool have taken a single point in the league so far having played a game more than Sunderland.

New manager Brendan Rodgers took over in the summer and has endured a difficult start, but Saha expects the Reds to come on strong once the playing squad get used to the off-season changes.

“They didn’t really start well a couple of seasons ago but did really well once Mr Dalglish came in,” he said.

“Now they have a different style. In the Barclays Premier League, things take time to settle.

“They have new players, a new system and it is difficult to change things quickly. Liverpool are a great side and will be tough opponents.”

But Saha is more focused on his own side and says he feels like he has joined at an exciting time.

“We must make sure our home is a fortress, which is not easy to do,” he added.

“I am confident that we have the players to do that. If we keep our confidence going, I think great things can be achieved.”
