Winger still looking to beat injury.

Martin O’Neill will leave it late to rule on Adam Johnson’s fitness after the winger was held out of training today.

The former Manchester City man made a brief substitute appearance at MK Dons but didn’t join in this morning’s session at the Academy of Light.

“Adam did a bit of training yesterday and came off feeling okay, then just had what I’m hoping is a superificial problem,” O’Neill.

“He had some more x-rays and everything seemed to be fine, or certainly there’s been no new damage.

“He didn’t train today; we’ll see how he is tomorrow with a late assessment.”

But there was better news on the defensive front with Titus Bramble and John O’Shea returning, while Seb Larsson also got a workout under his belt.

O’Neill said: “Titus trained today, Seb did a bit and so did John. I’m hoping that Carlos [Cuellar] can come though too.

“Getting some of those players back would be good news for us.”
