Midfielder backs club colleague after Ireland bow.
Jack Colback was delighted to see colleague David Meyler make his full debut for the Republic of Ireland last night.
Meyler started against Oman at Craven Cottage last night having suffered through an injury hell.
The midfielder was twice ruled out for lengthy periods with serious knee injuries, spending more than year on the sidelines.
But the upbeat youngster from Cork kept his wits about him and bounced back thanks to a positive attitude and old-fashioned hard work.
The length of his road to recovery will have made Meyler’s long-awaited international debut all the sweeter, and the moment wasn’t lost on those keeping an eye on events in the north east.
“I was over the moon to see him start and everyone here is buzzing for him,” said Colback.
“David was very unfortunate with his injury and he came back strongly.
“There’s not many who work harder in training and David’s getting the rewards for that.
“It’s good to see him getting that chance.
“The fact that David is a strong character will have helped him through.
“One injury like that could be enough to really damage some people’s spirits, so to have two must have been a nightmare for him.
“But he has worked really hard to come back strongly and he deserves all the rewards he gets.”
