Cattermole signs new contract until 2016.
Sunderland captain Lee Cattermole has signed a new contract with the club.
The 24-year-old will now remain on Wearside until 2016 having initially penned a four-year deal upon joining the club from Wigan Athletic in 2009.
Cattermole began his career with Middlesbrough and made his first-team debut aged 17, going on to make 91 appearances for the Teessiders.
He then spent a season at Wigan before moving to Sunderland, for whom he has played 80 career games so far.
Cattermole was named as the Black Cats’ captain at the start of the 2010-11 Barclays Premier League season, succeeding Lorik Cana.
