Winger on Britannia draw.
Following Sunderland’s goalless draw with Stoke City, winger Adam Johnson revealed that the team can be happy with that result as the trip to Staffordshire is not an easy one in the footballing calendar.
A committed defensive display from Martin O’Neill’s men saw his side take a point from the game at the Britannia Stadium, something Johnson believes is a positive outcome for the Black Cats.
I’m now starting to feel that I’m lasting longer in games and getting fitter after my injury
- Adam Johnson
“I thought it was a fair result - it was definitely a point gained rather than points dropped,” Johnson told safc.com after the game.
“I’ve been to the Britannia Stadium a couple of times with Manchester City and each of those times I think we got a draw and a couple of defeats.
“So it just goes to show how difficult a place it is to come, as not many teams get a result here.”
Sunderland return to the Stadium of Light with an extra point on the board after their sixth draw of the season.
“We’re picking up points and not getting beaten,” Johnson added.
“Now we need to start getting forward, creating a few more chances and getting goals and going on to win games.
“I’ve had a slow start since moving to Sunderland.
“I haven’t been too happy with my performances if I’m honest, but I’m now starting to feel that I’m lasting longer in games and getting fitter after my injury.
“I’m hoping to get better and keep on improving.”
