Martin O’Neill admits he may have to make some changes to his side against Middlesbrough tomorrow night due to injuries.
The Sunderland manager declined to discuss individual players but revealed some members of his squad are struggling to be fit in time for the game.
“We might have to make some changes to our side – a couple of them forced,” he told the press ahead of the Capital One Cup clash with Boro.
“We’ll see how the injuries are later on but we’ve got a couple of players with a few problems.
“We’ll go as strongly as we possibly can and try to win the game.”
He added: “I’m hoping that one [player] can come through, but if not then too bad.”
O’Neill has a number of options at his disposal and could call on some of his fringe players for the Wear-Tees clash.
But he admits the decision on who to play is a tough one with a place in the next round the utmost priority.
“It’s a difficult call,” he said. “You want to try and get through.
“Of course you want some players who’ve had less time in the last few weeks to get onto the field of play, but it’s a tough balancing act.
“The most important issue is to try and win the game.”
