Stephane Sessegnon

MON sensing Sess progress

Boss backs star to kick on from goal boost.

Martin O’Neill has backed Stephane Sessegnon to continue to cause problems for top-flight defences after bagging his first goal of the season.

The little forward from Benin opened his account in spectacular style at Fulham last weekend, firing home a fine shot from 25 yards.

Sessegnon scored eight goals last season to finish as the club’s joint top scorer.

Now he’s on the way again this term and looking to push on, starting against WBA tomorrow.

“Sessegnon’s goal was a great strike and that should give him plenty of confidence,” O’Neill said.

“He missed an opportunity against Everton, but he took this opportunity – if you can call it that – against Fulham and you could feel there was a tangible relief from him in getting on the scoresheet.

“He’s made a major contribution.”
