There were two big big saves in the game from Simon Mignolet.- Martin O'Neill
While the headlines are likely to be taken up by the three goalscorers who fired the Black Cats to victory over Fulham, O’Neill paid tribute to the man at the other end of the pitch that kept his team in the game with an abundance of wonder saves.
The stopper chipped in with two timely blocks to deny Steve Sidwell and Mladen Petric late in the second half to ensure Sunderland left London with all three points.
Following the game, O’Neill told safc.com: “There were two big big saves in the game from Simon Mignolet.
“He hurt himself yesterday in training and was a doubt for the game – it was touch and go whether or not he would be fit.
“But it was a fantastic performance.” O’Neill continued.
“I’m delighted with him.”
