Danny keen to build on Saints triumph.

A determined Danny Rose is eager for Sunderland to carry on picking up points over the busy Christmas schedule and believes there’s no better test than facing the reigning Barclays Premier League champions on home turf.

That win gives us a little bit of breathing space and let’s us go into the game against Man City with a bit of confidence.

Following the Black Cats win over Southampton at St Mary’s, which saw the club move to 14th in the table, Rose admitted: “It was a must win game, we knew what we needed to do.

“We have got probably the toughest month out of everybody in the league and that win gives us a little bit of breathing space and let’s us go into the game against Man City with a bit of confidence.

“It was a hard battle,” he continued, “but nothing changes.

“We know we have to go out there and get as many points as we can; we’re in a position where we need to try and not lose in every game we play in.”

Manchester City head to the Stadium of Light on Wednesday for the first time since their defeat on New Year’s Day, where Sunderland proved to be a hurdle in their Championship race.

Rose is looking forward to pitting himself against the myriad of superstars in the City squad and feels the rest of the team will be boosted by recent results too.

“We’ll head into the game on Boxing Day with confidence and push on from there.” Rose added.“I want to test myself against the best players and that’s what you get with Man City.

“We’re at home and hopefully we’ll have a big crowd behind us and go out there and take the game to City.”
