Cats must replicate second-half show at Norwich, says defender.
Danny Rose says Sunderland can give European champions Chelsea a real run for their money if they can string together two halves reminiscent of the second 45 minutes against Norwich last weekend.
The Black Cats dominated the second period at Carrow Road only to lose the game 2-1.
We have make sure we don’t give Chelsea the space that we gave Norwich in the first half last week
- Danny Rose
Craig Gardner hit the post, Matt Kilgallon missed a chance from close range and Connor Wickham had a goal ruled out for offside as Martin O'Neill's men narrowly missed out on at least a point.
“It’s definitely a difficult game this weekend, but if we start how we played in the second half at Norwich then we’ll give ourselves the best possible chance,” said Rose, who is on loan from Chelsea’s London rivals, Spurs.
“Any game against Chelsea is difficult. Their front four – Torres, Oscar, Hazard and Mata – can be frightening.
“I remember watching Spurs play Chelsea and they were quality that day.
“We have make sure we don’t give them the space that we gave Norwich in the first half last week.”
Rose added: “You’ve always got to take the positives from situations, in any walk of life.
“We moved the ball quicker in the second half and got the ball into the box.
“When Connor [Wickham] came on he did really well for us too and I’m very happy for him.
“We have to try and exploit Chelsea’s weaknesses and look at what we did well in the second half last week.”
